Life Was Good Today

Yesterday, Shawn and I shared a day off work together.  He is currently enjoying a few weeks off from school until the summer semester of school starts.  I can not even explain how wonderful it feels to see my husband relax, to see him smile and know that he is getting rest and taking some well-deserved time off.
We woke up early, cooked breakfast, and sent a very cheerful Isabelle off to school.  We lingered over our tea and coffee and caught the morning news.  Brees woke up and joined us on the couch for some early morning cuddling.  It's always nice when you get to spend alone time with one of your children, allowing all of your focus and energy to be placed on them, giving them all of your attention.

We deemed this a "no work" day, instead spending time on the things we love.  We caught up on our reading, played guitar, enjoyed shrimp po-boys for lunch, and visited a local antique store I've been dying to explore.  I'm getting better about balancing my time, working my way into a groove since becoming a mother for the second go 'round.  Opening our hearts and lives to another little girl meant that certain things had to be put on the back burner for a while, we had to slow down and reconfigure our lives.  But the dust is settling, this family is riding smooth, and we are learning the fine art of mixing work and pleasure.
We are a work in progress, learning as we go.  That's why I treasure days such as these, when I feel like we got it right.  When my heart tells me that I've made everyone feel loved, that I've expressed myself creatively and spent my time doing things I am passionate about, when I've allowed myself to enjoy this life I have been blessed with.  I can sit back and really say:  Life was good today.

A "no work" day?? YES, PLEASE!!! Your day sounds WONDERFUL!!! You have such a sweet family and you take such great pictures!! I agree - your blog header could not be more precious! You'll have to take those sweet girls to that splash pad!! It's right on the side of the zoo in Alexandria! There is such a nice park and the kids will have a BLAST playing in the water!! On your next "no work" day, you'll have to try it out! :)

Brees is so cute :D Baby hugs are the best - you can't be sad while hugging a child - I have no idea how that works but it just does lol. Then again I have no kids of my own and it's other peoples kids that I get hugs from lol.
