I realize I am terribly late in becoming immersed in this series, but I have recently
fallen completely in love with "The Hunger Games" trilogy. I picked up the first book to
read on our long Thanksgiving holiday road trip and could barely put it down. It was one
of those books that you carry with you everywhere, devouring every word, every page,
every chapter until, 8 hours later, you are done and rushing to buy the rest of the
series. Believe the hype: "The Hunger Games" is THAT good.

the government has complete control. Once a year, a boy and girl from each of the
country's 12 districts is randomly picked to participate in a nationally televised fight to
the death. The story's main character, Katniss, volunteers herself as tribute after
her younger sister is chosen. I found myself completely immersed in Katniss's world:
her innate survival skills, her ability to emotionally detach herself despite being
incredibly sensitive and giving. My stomach turned just imagining the emotion the
characters must have felt knowing they were entering the most dangerous
environment imaginable.

I finished the entire series in only a few days, staying up way past my bedtime with
a flashlight, reliving my 12 year old self. If you haven't read these books yet, GO! Buy
them! Light a fire, put on your most comfortable pajamas, and settle in for an emotional
ride. This series holds a special spot on my bookshelf.

it's so funny you are writing this today--i have just ordered my copy of the first book, for a community read that our local high school is sponsoring. i'm a little behind the trend, too, but i'm excited to read the book alongside a bunch of the students i work with.
YEAH! These books (and I'm not being dramatic) changed my life. They made me rethink my priorities & what I thought was "important". After you finish this one, try Birthmarked by Caraugh O'Brien. Similar dystopian setting & I can't put this one down either.
i haven't read these books. i actually hadn't even heard of them until i saw a trailer for the movie. but i am really interested!
I really loved the first book and I guess the second too (are there 3 or 4?) but by the last book I was over her writing style, so I literally skimmed the end pages. I'm excited for the movie though!
PS LOVED your comment on my post about how tired you are of "vintage" everything. You are SO RIGHT. I find it horribly overused, especially in blogs. "I'm wearing my vintage sandals with this dress from my great-grandma's cousin who lived in Paris during the 1920s...(or something)" GAG.
I just finished reading the first book for my Young Adult Lit class and writing a high school lesson plan on it. I can't wait for Christmas break to get here so that I can read the other two! :)

They filmed the first movie in my city and I have multiple friends who got to be extras!
