Steppin' Out Saturday

Last night, Shawn and I left the babies with my mama and stepped out for a sushi/book
store date.  I will be the first to admit that we do NOT do this enough: since Brees was
born, we have left our girls and gone off on our own only a handful of times.  It has not
been intentional, we are completely crazy for each other, but we always seem to
put everything and everyone before our own free time.  I actually wrote about this
here many moons ago, the struggle for balance.  We have decided to make a
conscious effort to change all that, however.  It's on our list of things to improve on:
creating a better balance between being the best, most attentive parents we can be while
also taking the time to spend one on one time with each other.  Our goal: one date night
per month.  At least one night where we can catch up, be romantical, and recharge
before stepping back into our roles as mama and daddy.
This is such an important part of marriage: evaluating where things are, recognizing
trends, tweaking routines to make them fit your needs.  We know that we need more
time together, we know that we deserve it.  The parent guilt that creeps into our minds
and makes us think we're not allowed to have that time is getting kicked to the curb.
And so here we are, eleven years of marriage in, still learning and growing, setting goals
and trying new things.  I am head over heels for this man and am so thankful for nights
such as these, they remind me of how this whole life started.  Our date nights are
nothing extravagant, they only last a few hours and take very little preparation.  But
the effect they have on our hearts, well, it's earth shattering.
Here's what we wore:

So true! My husband makes a really big point of taking me out once a week, because I'm at the point where I feel the mommy guilt even if I'm in the same ROOM as my babies but not giving them 100% of my attention! I always resist leaving them, too, but then I'm so happy that I get to spend time with just my honey!
