028

A portrait of my family, once a week, every week in 2014.

I've made a commitment this year to be more vigilant about documenting our family and the memories we are building together.  I want to print more photos out and place them in albums or boxes rather than have them sitting in my hard drive.  I want to capture moments from our everyday life.  I want to finish up scrapbooks and baby books and get rid of all the excess.  I want to have photos of the five of us together to look back on later.  Later, when there will hopefully be more than five of us.

I'm making a goal this year to participate in the portrait a week project featuring photos of our family, together.  I know that it will be a challenge to get all of us together each week but I think that it's a challenge worth investing in.

This photo was taken on New Year's Eve.  We stayed home this year and invited our best friends over for supper and a movie. I made chili and chocolate chip cookies, Shawn lit fireworks in the front yard, and we all cuddled up in front of the fire.  All five of us were up at midnight to watch the ball drop.  We gave each other hugs and kisses and new year well wishes.  We tucked the girls into Isabelle's bed (they like to sleep together these days) and then climbed into bed with River in between us.  It felt like the perfect way to start a new year.

Such a lovely way to begin the new year for sure. I like your idea of taking a family photo each week rather than just one of each of the kids and of printing out and organizing photos. That is on my short list as well. We used to spend hours looking through my mom's trunk of photos and I want to have printed copies available to do the same with Isadora, Eric and other children as our family grows. It's just different and I think better than clicking through them on a computer together.

Happy new year to all five of you.

Love your photos a week project! And, I am going to take inspiration from you and print out more photos/make more photo books. I hate that folders of photos are just getting archived every so often and I have to pull out an external hard drive to access them.
