15 Weeks

This week has been good to us.  I finally caved in and started taking the prescription of
Zofran that my OBGYN gave me.  The nausea subsided and I was finally able to eat some of
my favorite foods again without my stomach turning.  My family reaped the benefits
this weekend as I made myself at home in the kitchen again, preparing several meals that
my body was suddenly craving as if I hadn't eaten in months: salmon stuffed with
crabmeat dressing, pot roast with red skin mashed potatoes, zucchini and black bean
skillet, and a chocolate cake.  I've been drinking water with lemon throughout the day,
keeping myself hydrated and feeling refreshed with my aunt's home grown lemons.  It feels
so good to start the day with a nice bowl of oatmeal and a piece of fruit rather than a
sick tummy.
On the other hand, I've developed terrible headaches that come and go throughout the
day.  My doctor allows me to take Motrin and I've also been using Lavender essential oils
and Epsom salt bathes.  I completely broke down several nights this week and went to bed
as soon as we put the girls to bed, falling asleep by 8 pm and surrendering my body to the
rest it needs.  It has been very hard for me: admitting that I don't have the energy level I am
used to, forgiving myself for not getting everything done and then some.  But then a
good friend will come along, or my husband will pat me gently on the back, or I'll read a
story and remind myself: I am doing good work right now.  I am a nurse and a mama and a
wife and a house keeper and a cook and a baby maker.  It's okay to rest when you need to,
it's essential to the success of this growing season.

I just love this ruffled dress, it's the perfect dress for the "in between" stage: the time
during pregnancy when you don't quite fit into maternity clothes but your regular clothes
are growing tighter by the minute.  I'm trying to squeeze in (literally) one more wear of
my favorite winter dresses before spring arrives.  It will be hard to pack this pretty
little number away.

You look fabulous. Please get lots of rest, and don't feel guilty about it. I remember passing out at 9 p.m. and sleeping for 12 hours when I was pregnant ... something I haven't been able to do SINCE I was pregnant. You are building a human in there! Lots of sleep is necessary. Chores can wait!
