Easy Like Sunday Morning

On Sunday morning, Shawn asked if we could sit outside for a while.  He wanted to feel 

the sun on his face, fill his lungs with fresh air, and forget about the doctors' 

appointments and wound care dressing changes that have filled up his days.  I 

happily obliged: setting up chairs in the driveway so that we could watch Isabelle show 

off her bike riding skills, fretting over the temperature and making sure he had ice

 cold water to stay hydrated.  We brought out a couple of magazines, the sidewalk chalk, 

and lots and lots of bubbles.  It was a nice, simple Sunday morning, a few hours of 

normalcy in an otherwise world wind week.  

Our lives have changed so much in the last month and we celebrate every 

milestone, whether big or small.  Shawn having enough strength and energy to be 

outside with our little girls, walking down the driveway to collect the mail: it is 

progress.  Those few hours outside put a smile on his face, made him feel a little more 

like himself.  And the girls and I were right there with him, cheering him on.  Who knew

 that blowing bubbles could be such powerful medicine?
