Steppin' Out

With all the excitement of Brees's first birthday consuming us this last week, I decided to
take Isabelle out on a special date Friday: just the two of us.  With Shawn at work and
Brees tucked into bed at my mom's house, we headed out for a night on the town: my
sweet big girl and I.  This night was well needed for both of us, a chance to spend
time together with no interruptions, lots of giggling and girl talk.  As Brees turns one
on Monday, I've found myself feeling sad and trying to hold onto every precious moment of
her baby stage, willing it to last just a little bit longer.  But then I have a night like this
with Isabelle and I am reminded that, though the baby stage is amazing for all its cuddles
and warmth and closeness, there are many more incredible times to be had as children
get older.  I love talking to Belle, listening to her wit and insight, her innocent outlook on
the world.  The reluctance I feel to let go of Brees's infancy was comforted by the fun I
had with Belle's maturity.  Each stage really does bring new joys.
Mama:
Dress: Roxy
Tights and cardigan: F21
Boots: Wanted
Belle:
Top and boots: Kohl's
Leggings: Old Navy

We had dinner at one of our favorite Southern soul food restaurants and then went to
the movies to see "Puss in Boots".  We ate as much popcorn and M&M's as we could stand
and then waddled our way home, scooping up a sleeping Brees and thanking my mama
with a bag of her favorite candy.  Isabelle gave my mom a full report, her smile
spreading from ear to ear as she declared this "the best night ever".
There's nothing better than that, really.

You are an amazing mom. She's going to cherish these times forever and I think the connections you are building with your girls are invaluable, they'll never be without someone to turn to, and that's wonderful. Goodness, you're wonderful. :)
